Don’t Let Dust Steal Your Solar Yield – A Quick Guide to Inverter Cleaning

Many inverters are installed in dusty areas – near construction sites, roads, or in sandy regions. Over time, dust accumulates on heatsinks and fans. This seemingly minor issue can significantly reduce efficiency and create safety hazards.

Three Major Harms of Dust:

  1. Poor Heat Dissipation – Clogged heatsinks and filters cause overheating, efficiency drops, and even shutdowns. Just 1mm of dust can raise internal temperature by over 15°C.

  2. Leakage & Short Circuits – In humid conditions, dust absorbs moisture and becomes conductive, leading to arcing, short circuits, or fire.

  3. Corrosion – Dust with acidic/alkaline compounds can corrode PCBs, causing permanent damage.

Simple 4‑Step Cleaning:

  • Disconnect Power – Turn off both AC and DC sides, wait at least 10 minutes for capacitors to discharge.

  • Wipe the Enclosure – Use a soft dry cloth or brush. Never use water or corrosive cleaners.

  • Clean Heatsink & Fan – Open the cover (refer to manual) and use a blower or vacuum to gently remove dust. Do not use high‑pressure air.

  • Check Air Filter – If equipped, clean or replace the filter regularly.

Recommended Cleaning Frequency:

  • Normal environment: every 3–6 months.

  • Dusty areas (construction, frequent sandstorms): monthly or quarterly, and always after a sandstorm.
